New Feed Additives Can Reduce Enteric Methane
One quarter of all global non-CO2 emissions come from livestock emissions, nearly half of which comes from enteric fermentation. Researchers are cautiously optimistic about two promising feed additive types for reducing enteric fermentation—3-NOP and red seaweed.

Why is Methane Such a Critical Climate Issue
Once emitted, methane resides in the atmosphere for about 12 years, but it traps far more heat while in the atmosphere. Finding solutions for sectors contributing to methane emissions offers one of our best opportunities for slowing warming through mid-century.
How Plastics Are Poisoning Us | The New Yorker
“We now know that we can’t start to reduce plastic pollution without a reduction of production,” Imari Walker-Franklin (RTI International) and Jenna Jambeck, both environmental engineers, observe in “Plastics,” forthcoming from M.I.T. Press. “Upstream and systemic change is needed.”
City Planners Should be Mindful of Tree Cover
Heat-related mortality is one of the leading causes of weather-related deaths in the U.S. As temperatures rise because of climate change and municipalities continue to expand, heat-related mortality is projected to increase by thousands.
Climate Finance for WASH in India
Awareness of sources and accessing climate adaptation financing for water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) projects has been a challenge globally. RTI India co-developed this brief to provide an overview of the climate finance available for the WASH sector in India.
Supporting Mexico's Net Zero Emissions Goals Through Climate-Smart Actions
Through the USAID Partnership for Net Zero Cities, RTI is partnering with five major cities and states in Mexico to invest in energy efficiency measures and reduce carbon emissions.
Reducing Ocean Plastics in Sri Lanka and Maldives
Roughly 11 million metric tons of plastic enters the ocean annually. To reduce ocean plastic pollution, USAID awarded the Ocean Plastic Reduction Activity to RTI in October 2022. This is a five-year project that works alongside local partners to reduce plastic inputs and improve integrated solid waste management practices in Sri Lanka and Maldives.
Machine Learning Can Help Pinpoint Facilities at High Risk for Lead in Tap Water
New study by experts at RTI International finds that machine-learning models can be more effective than traditional methods at identifying child care facilities at high risk of having tap water containing lead. The models outperformed factors currently used to determine risk by 118–213% based on precision and sensitivity.
