Abdishakur (Shakur) Ahmed has ten years of experience in the energy sector and currently serves as an Energy & Utility Specialist for the USAID-funded Power Africa East Africa Energy Program (EAEP) implemented by RTI. In this capacity, he leads the program’s activities in Somalia and provides technical assistance to EAEP’s work in Djibouti and the East Africa region.

Prior to joining RTI, Shakur was an Energy Consultant at Gigawatt Global, a utility-scale wind and solar energy developer with projects across Sub-Saharan Africa. He also implemented development institution-funded energy projects, including the World Bank-funded Somalia Power Master Plan project. Additionally, Shakur was the Managing Director at SomLite, a last-mile solar product financing and distribution company in Somaliland, and a Business Development Manager at SomPower, Somaliland’s largest electricity service provider.     

His energy project experience has focused on decentralized power development support, utility power planning and procurement support, cross-border power trade market design, electricity tariff setting, carbon markets, and climate finance.
