Dr. Sophia Gorgodze is an education specialist with 20 years of experience implementing education initiatives in both government and donor settings. She currently serves as the Chief of Party on the USAID-funded Basic Education Program in Georgia. 

Prior to joining RTI, she served as the Director of the National Assessment and Examinations Center (NAEC) in Georgia and served as the first Director of the newly founded Teacher Professional Development Center (TPDC). She has extensive experience managing and supporting Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC), World Bank, and other donor-funded activities, as well as technical expertise in classroom assessment, teacher education, teacher policies, and training design and delivery. She is a respected author of pedagogical literature and educational research.

Dr. Gorgodze serves as the member of the Standing Committee for the IEA General Assembly (IEA- International Association for the Evaluation of Educational Achievement).  In the past, she has served as a Board member for the PISA Governing Board (PISA- the program for international student assessment); a Liaison Officer for the Council of Europe Pestalozzi Program for the development of teachers; and was semi-finals judge for the International English Speaking Union Public Speaking Competition in London.

She is a member of the Comparative and International Education Society (CIES), the International Association for the Evaluation of Educational Assessment (IEA), the English Speaking Union (ESU), and the Harvard Club of Georgia.
