David L. Denton helps identify and drive new government- and industry-sponsored business and research opportunities for RTI’s Energy Technology Division. He also defines and guides strategic planning and direction and manages specific projects and proposals.
In August 2016, Denton was appointed by the U.S. Secretary of Energy to serve a two-year term on the National Coal Council, providing guidance and recommendations to the Secretary on policy matters involving coal and coal-related issues. He has provided expert testimony before the U.S. Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee, in addition to presenting invited papers at a host of national and international conferences. Denton is a member of the Gasification and Syngas Technologies Council (executive committee and board member) and has previously served on a number of other public/private boards and committees. He is also a certified professional engineer in the state of Tennessee and holds several U.S. and foreign patents.
Prior to joining RTI, Denton was employed for a number of years at Eastman Chemical Company, where he was a Technology Fellow and Director and served in numerous leadership roles, including responsibility for chemical process engineering research, energy policy development, and the launch of new gasification services and project development businesses.
