Joe Johnson, a senior software engineer in the Center for Applied Economics and Strategy, is a full-stack software engineer with 15 years of professional experience in designing, developing, and managing software applications. At RTI, Mr. Johnson leads a software DevOps team in the design and development of web-based solutions to facilitate the collection, display, and analysis of a variety of data across multiple domains, including energy and water demand-side management, radiological environmental monitoring, and emergency planning, technology and commercialization outcome tracking, and lead testing in childcare centers and schools.

Mr. Johnson is proficient in the full Software Development Lifecycle including the concepts of Agile development and DevOps. He is experienced in deploying and maintaining these solutions as hosted software-as-a-service applications within cloud services providers.

Mr. Johnson is the Product Manager for RTI’s Nu-PathNET, a service that facilitates analyzing the nature and extent of off-site radiological conditions in real time for emergency response and realistic simulation-based training. He also manages the infrastructure supporting the Clean Water for Carolina Kids™ and Clean Water for US Kids™ programs aimed at eliminating contaminants in drinking water and cooking water where children learn, play, and live.

Before joining RTI, Mr. Johnson worked for International Business Machines as a part of IBM’s Software Group. As a member of the SalesConnect Data Integration team, he helped design and develop integration layers and interfaces between IBM’s customer relationship management system, IBM sales information infrastructure, and employee email clients. As a member of the Smart Business Solutions team, Mr. Johnson helped design and develop proof of concepts aimed at small-to-medium-sized businesses, providing automated deployment and configuration of software and hardware. At IBM, Mr. Johnson was a contributing inventor to four successfully issued patents.
