Emily Hadley is a research data scientist with technical skills in machine learning, forecasting, generative AI, natural language processing, predictive analytics, and data visualizations, along with extensive experience programming in Python and R. In her current role, Emily collaborates with other technical contributors and subject matter experts on applied data science projects in several practice areas, including health, education, social policy, and criminal justice. 

Emily is a subject matter expert in responsible AI and AI governance, focusing on addressing equity and ethics in AI and data science. Given her knowledge and insight in the rapidly-changing generative AI landscape, she represents RTI at the US AI Safety Institute Consortium. This initiative was established by the Department of Commerce’s National Institute of Standards and Technology, and brings together AI creators and users, academics, government and industry researchers, and civil society organizations to meet the mission of developing and deploying trustworthy and safe AI. Outside of her research and appointments, Emily has presented at numerous conferences, including IEEE Big Data; Fairness, Accountability, and Transparency (FAccT); and the Joint Statistical Meetings (JSM). She has several data science publications and has been quoted on data science research in Scientific American and the New York Times.

Prior to joining RTI in 2018, Emily served as an AmeriCorps college adviser in rural North Carolina, where she used data-driven techniques to build a college-bound culture.
