Amy Roussel is executive vice president of Social, Statistical, and Environmental Sciences (SSES) at RTI International, an independent nonprofit research institute dedicated to improving the human condition by turning knowledge into practice. She leads approximately 3,000 professional staff who conduct a variety of research, development and technical assistance projects across the practice areas of analytics, communication, data, education, environment, health, justice, technology, and equity.
Dr. Roussel has an academic background in organizational sociology, with a bachelor’s degree from Duke University and master’s and doctoral degrees from Stanford University. She came to RTI in 1998 from the University of Washington. Starting at RTI as a senior research sociologist, she advanced to the top leadership position in SSES, RTI’s largest business unit.
Over the years, Dr. Roussel has led and contributed to multidisciplinary teams in the areas of public health improvement, health services research, health policy and management, and program evaluation. Her portfolio includes numerous multimillion-dollar projects for various federal agencies, addressing topics ranging from HIV to patient safety, and her record of publications has focused on generating actionable insights for practitioners and policymakers.
