CWR and IDB will be participating in the following sessions:
"No Amazonia, no water: climate change in the rainforest"
August 25th 10:00-10:45am (EST)
The crisis in the Amazon Basin opens an opportunity to shift to sustainable development and avoid what scientists refer to as tipping points, whereby the basin and its ecosystem would no longer sustain itself. This session will bring in solutions to water and environment related issues in this vital region. RTI is supporting the coordination of the session but will not be presenting any projects. Other convenors of the event include Inter-American Development Bank, Organizacion del Tratado de Cooperacion Amazonica, Organization of American States, and United Nations Economic Commission for Europe.
“In abundance of scarcity: securing water in times of drought”
August 25th 11:00-11:45am (EST)
During this session, RTI will support a presentation by the local agency ADASA and CAESB on the Brasilia Case Study which was developed by RTI International. The frequency and severity of droughts are growing due to climate change, increasing water demand, rapid urbanization, and environmental degradation, resulting in water insecurity across the world. Cases from the Latin American region will illustrate the use of new planning and investment design tools to combat droughts. Other session convenors include Inter-American Development Bank, National Water Commission of Mexico, and Water for People.
"Tech to wet: HydroBID digital innovation for water security"
August 26th 11:00-11:45am (EST)
RTI will be presenting HydroBID and WaterALLOC, two featured CWR products, and coordinating the presentation of projects by Fundación Chile and CEA Queretaro. HydroBID is a suite of models that utilizes hydrological and climatic data to estimate water balances at regional scales, at the basin and sub-basin levels; of approximately 300,000 basins in Latin America and the Caribbean, as well as predict flood patterns and support the design of resilient infrastructure. Other event convenors include Inter-American Development Bank, PepsiCo Foundation, Fundación Chile, CEA Querétaro, DINAGUA Uruguay, and Municipalidad de Santa Fé (Argentina).
