Sara Harrison is a Microscopist in RTI’s Center for Analytical Sciences. In this capacity, she analyzes bulk building material samples using polarized light microscopy (PLM) and bulk, air, and water samples via transmission electron microscopy (TEM) as well as air samples via phase contrast microscopy (PCM). Ms. Harrison provides analytical expertise and technical support for the National Institute of Standard and Technology’s (NIST’s) National Voluntary Laboratory Accreditation Program (NVLAP) for bulk and airborne asbestos analyses, the American Industrial Hygiene Association’s (AIHA’s) Bulk Asbestos Proficiency Analytical Testing program (BAPAT) for bulk asbestos, Industrial Hygiene Proficiency Analytical Program (IHPAT) and the Asbestos Analyst’s Registry Program (AAT) for airborne asbestos. Ms. Harrison manages the asbestos calibration standards project. She also has experience characterizing nanomaterials using scanning electron microscope (SEM) and TEM.
