Matt Williams, PhD, is a senior research statistician with a strong track record of delivering analytical excellence to the public sector. With more than 10 years of experience in mathematical statistics, Dr. Williams specializes in developing and evaluating methods to apply Bayesian analysis to complex survey data, such as those from multistage household surveys. He holds memberships with both the Institute of Mathematical Statistics and the American Statistical Association. 

Dr. Williams has worked as a mathematical statistician for three federal statistical agencies, serving both in an executive capacity as acting chief statistician and as acting program director of statistics and methodology for the National Center for Science and Engineering Statistics (NCSES) prior to joining RTI.  He provided expert consulting to the Department of State, the U.S. Forest Service, and NASA. He has collaborated on numerous international projects. Dr. Williams cultivated close partnerships with the evaluation community through his work on an interdisciplinary team at the National Science Foundation, building expertise in evidence-based decision making.

At RTI, Dr. Williams strives to connect and develop people and projects across practice areas. Active areas of engagement include formal privacy (e.g. differential privacy), record linkage, and Bayesian statistics.
