Dhananjay Pandit is an expert in water resources development and management, with 30 years of experience in hydro-informatics, geo-informatics, hydrological modeling, integrated water resources management (IWRM), decision support systems (DSS) in the water sector, and project management. As RTI’s Director, Water Resources Management, he leads business development growth in the water resources sector in India and provides management, leadership, and growth strategies, along with driving technical excellence in water resources management.
Dr. Pandit has carried out more than 100 projects, including national mission, Research & Development, and consulting projects, funded by various ministries of the Government of India, State Government departments, and international funding agencies including the World Bank and the Asian Development Bank.
Dr. Pandit has lead teams carrying out flood forecasting and early warning systems (FF&EWS), reservoir operation systems (ROS) and IWRM projects for different river basins in India, including Krishna-Bhima (Maharashtra), Brahmaputra (Assam), and Damodar (Jharkhand and West Bengal), Kosi (Bihar), and other interstate rivers like Yamuna, Cauvery and Narmada. He has also worked on river basins in Nepal and Thailand.
Before joining RTI, Dr. Pandit served as Technical Director with AECOM India, Director with DHI India, and as a scientist at various levels in Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) While working with ISRO, Dr. Pandit gained extensive experience in digital image processing of satellite remote sensing data, application of Geographic Information System (GIS) and satellite remote sensing for irrigation and water resources projects, as well as the development of DSS for water resources applications. His expertise includes the development and implementation of FF&EWS, ROS, flood modeling, river basin modeling, DSS for IWRM, Irrigation Information Systems, and remote sensing and GIS applications in water resources.
