NCDS DataBytes: Bringing Data Science to Middle and High School Education
Date
RTI data scientist Peter Baumgartner and North Carolina State University professor Hollylynne S. Lee will be featured speakers during the next National Consortium for Data Science (NCDS) next DataBytes webinar on March 6. The event, “DataBytes: Bringing Data Science to Middle and High School Education,” will focus on efforts to increase understanding and education of data science skills and improve data literacy for students in middle and high schools.
Many undergraduate and graduate programs are increasingly incorporating aspects of data science into their curricula. Because of this trend, there is a growing interest in introducing students to data-intensive careers in middle and high schools.
In this webinar, the presenters will discuss ways data science skills and data habits of mind can be incorporated into schools, as well as opportunities for expanding education beyond classroom walls. They will also share how efforts at NC State’s Friday Institute for Educational Innovation and RTI International are focused on improving data science education in secondary schools.
DataBytes is a monthly webinar series sponsored by NCDS that examines interesting and timely issues in data science. Presentations typically last 30-45 minutes, followed by a question and answer session. For additional information, visit datascienceconsortium.org.
