Philip Schwehm Named VP of Governance and Economic Development Division

RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, N.C. – Philip Schwehm has been promoted to vice president of the Governance and Economic Development Division at RTI International.

During the past two years, Schwehm has served as senior director of the division, supporting the strategic development, integration, and collaboration of governance and economic development programs.

“Philip has demonstrated his superior technical, managerial and leadership skills,” said Aaron Williams, executive vice president of the International Development Group at RTI. “We look forward to his continued leadership and contributions to the Governance and Economic Development Division’s success.”

Schwehm has 20 years of professional experience in the international development sector. He has served in various senior capacities managing complex development projects and designing program strategies and interventions in economic governance and public sector management based on the political, institutional, and socioeconomic conditions of developing countries.

Prior to joining RTI in 2004, Schwehm served as U.S. Agency for International Development’s senior governance advisor in Indonesia. He has managed and contributed to major development projects with USAID, DFID and the World Bank in the Middle East, Eastern Europe, and Southeast Asia.

Schwehm was a Ph.D. candidate in comparative administration and politics at Northern Illinois University. He earned a master’s degree in international relations and development and a bachelor’s degree in political science from the University of Florida. He was a Fulbright Fellow in the Philippines.
