Compounds having relatively long shelf lives in acidic aqueousmedia and which are useful as sweeteners have the formula ##STR1##or are pharmaceutically acceptable salts thereof, wherein X is --ORor --NHR, or --NH.sub.2, with R being alkyl having 3-10 carbonatoms.
