Dr. Caroline Toroitich has 20 years of experience in the international development sector, supporting donor-funded and private-sector investment projects with the World Bank, Sustainable Energy for All (SEforALL), the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency, the United Kingdom’s Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office, the U.S. Agency for International Development, The Rainforest Alliance, and SNV Netherlands Development Organization.  

Dr. Toroitich is passionate about rural communities' access to energy for the outcomes and possibilities that it unlocks in rural economic development, education, health, among others.  As a Senior Advisor on the USAID-funded Power Africa Empowering East and Central Africa (EECA) project, she oversees implementation of field activities including overseeing assessments, identifying highest impact opportunities, contributing to annual work plans, and implementing approved activities. She collaborates closely with the USAID missions, the Power Africa Coordinator’s Office, and other U.S. government agencies, as appropriate, and maintains strong relationships with relevant regional organizations.

She has successfully managed and  implemented various energy and climate change adaptation programs, leading their design, resource mobilization and overseeing their implementation  across sub-Sahara Africa covering  Benin, Burkina Faso, Burundi, Central Africa Republic, Democratic Republic of Congo, Djibouti, Ethiopia, Gabon, Kenya, Liberia, Madagascar, Malawi, Mali, Mozambique, Nigeria, Republic of Congo, Rwanda, Sierra Leone, Senegal, South Sudan, Sudan, Somalia, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia ,and Zimbabwe.

Prior to joining RTI, Dr. Toroitich was a consultant at the SEforALL and World Bank where she supported the implementation of the Universal Energy Facility and the World Bank Regional Infrastructure Finance Facility. Before that she was the Team Leader for the Renewable Energy and Adaptation to Climate Technologies (REACT) at the Africa Enterprise Challenge Fund, managing a $100+ million fund providing catalytic funding (grants, results-based funding, and debt) to energy businesses to expand clean energy access in Sub-Saharan Africa.
