Lana Millard Waneka

Lana Millard Waneka is a water resources engineer at RTI. She specializes in hydrologic forecasting, hydrologic and hydraulic modeling, and flood-risk assessment to support operational and long-term water resource management. Ms. Millard Waneka works with Delft-FEWS to support live forecasting systems and integrates Python-based analytics, machine-learning methods, and workflow automation to enhance forecasting skill and operational efficiency. She also develops, calibrates, and applies hydrologic models, including SAC-SMA and SNOW-17. Additionally, Ms. Millard Waneka conducts reservoir modeling using RiverWare to inform real-time decision-making.

Currently, Ms. Millard Waneka supports the development of operational forecast systems for Duke Energy and Ameren, integrating real-time data in Delft-FEWS with RiverWare and Python-based reservoir simulation models to enhance operational decision-making. She also collaborates with the Bureau of Reclamation and the National Weather Service River Forecasting Centers to enhance water-supply forecasting.

Ms. Millard Waneka has completed projects for the Tennessee Valley Authority, where she conducted downstream consequence modeling using HEC-RAS and HEC-LifeSim to support dam safety risk assessments.

Before joining RTI in 2021, Ms. Millard Waneka worked at Anderson Consulting Engineers. She worked closely with municipal clients, designing improvements for urban drainage systems, conducting hydrologic and hydraulic modeling, and producing floodplain maps for FEMA. 

Ms. Millard Waneka holds a Professional Engineer certificate in the state of Colorado.
