RTI International Opens Research Operations Center in Raleigh

RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, N.C. – RTI International today celebrated the grand opening of its newly renovated Research Operations Center in Raleigh, which employs 450 data collection specialists and 40 supervisors.

The new center consolidates operations that support more than 50 ongoing research projects for federal and state agencies as well as commercial clients.

“Survey research is the largest and most successful component of our business, and it is vital to our future research and business success,” said Wayne Holden, Ph.D., RTI’s president and CEO. “The reason we are here today is to mark this significant occasion for what it is, an important milestone in the future of RTI and its research operations.”

In the past year, growth in RTI's survey research businesses has nearly doubled the number of people who work at the center. The facility’s 240 networked telephone interview stations handle more than 5 million phone calls annually.

The facility previously housed RTI’s call center from which researchers conduct telephone surveys as well as telephone-based recruiting of hospitals, schools and other businesses to participate in RTI’s research projects.

In addition to the call center, the expanded facility, open seven days a week, now includes RTI’s field technical support group, data preparation team, scanning and data entry functions, and a mapping unit that supports field-based counting and listing.

“The placement of all these service groups under one roof opens up lots of new possibilities in terms of increased collaboration, more efficiency, and ultimately better service for our clients,” Holden said.

The center’s fulfillment and data capture services provides mailing, shipping, editing and data entry support to RTI projects, processing more than 1.5 million pieces of mail and more than 100,000 administrative records annually. The center’s mapping and statistical services provides sampling assistance for household and other field surveys.

To support activities at the Research Operations Center, RTI has partnered with several small, local businesses, including HR Directions, Professional Mail Services Inc., Storr Office Environments, and Tri Properties.
