RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, N.C. – RTI International has once again earned accreditation as a CEO Cancer Gold Standard employer in recognition of ongoing efforts to provide a healthy work environment for staff members. RTI has been Gold Standard accredited since 2010.
To earn CEO Cancer Gold Standard accreditation, companies must foster a culture that lowers cancer risk by promoting healthy lifestyle choices, encouraging early detection through cancer screenings and ensuring access to quality treatment.
“We care about the health and well-being of our staff members,” said Wayne Holden, Ph.D., president and CEO of RTI. “I am pleased we have maintained this high standard of excellence for the prevention, detection and care of cancer, as well as other serious conditions.”
The CEO Cancer Gold Standard was created by the CEO Roundtable on Cancer, a nonprofit group of CEOs, in collaboration with the National Cancer Institute and leading health non-profit organizations and professionals as a way to fight cancer in the workplace. Currently, millions of employees and family members benefit from the commitment of 135 employers nationwide who are Gold Standard accredited.
To achieve and maintain accreditation, employers must offer resources and health benefits that will lower cancer risk, such as support to help employees quit using tobacco and programs that encourage physical activity and a healthy diet.
Employers are also required to cover cancer screenings, which increase the likelihood of detecting cancer at its earliest stages when treatment may be more effective. In the event of a cancer diagnosis, employers provide access to quality care, including participation in cancer clinical trials.
RTI offers a number of activities, programs and resources that encourage health and wellness among staff members.
The CEO Roundtable on Cancer was founded in 2001 by a group of corporate executives who are dedicated to working toward the elimination of cancer as a personal disease and as a public health problem. For more information, visit www.CancerGoldStandard.org.
