RTI International Releases 2021 Environmental, Social, and Governance Report

RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, N.C. — RTI International (RTI), a nonprofit research and global development institute, has released its 2021 Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) report. The report highlights RTI’s response to COVID-19, progress toward the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), racial justice and equity work, commitment to environmental sustainability and philanthropic work from Oct. 2020 to Sept. 2021.  

“COVID-19 has changed how all of us work, but at RTI, the pandemic has not changed who we are,” said E. Wayne Holden, President and CEO of RTI.  “Our top priority is our people – by maintaining a focus on them, we have successfully applied our expertise where needed most, including the COVID-19 pandemic, environmental impacts and climate change effects, and racial justice and equity issues.”  

The 2021 ESG report advances RTI’s previous work in sustainability and other areas covered within the publication.  

The report highlights key efforts RTI has made to protect staff from COVID-19, while focusing directly on research projects related to the pandemic. The report also acknowledges a commitment to implementing an Equity, Diversity, Inclusion and Belonging (EDIB) framework and dedication to hiring and maintaining diverse talent, with the goal of eliminating systemic racism and building a concentrated effort around racial equity.  

Other key highlights within the report include more information about projects making progress toward achieving all 17 of the SDGs — demonstrating impact in areas such as sustainable development, climate change mitigation and adaptation, human health, education, and gender equality. The report also includes highlights on progress toward reducing greenhouse gas emissions (GHGs), decreasing water consumption, and engaging in philanthropic work.
