Jerry Timbrook is a survey methodologist with a specialty in designing questionnaires for mail, web, and computer-assisted telephone interview (CATI) surveys. He employs behavior coding, analysis of paradata (e.g., keystroke logs, response timing data), cognitive interviews, and usability tests to inform questionnaire development. As a computationally minded social scientist, Dr. Timbrook also uses computer-based methodological techniques like AI and machine learning to improve the quality of survey data.

Dr. Timbrook works on national surveys and research studies, including the National Postsecondary Student Aid Study (NPSAS), the Beginning Postsecondary Students Longitudinal Study (BPS), the National Dementia Workforce Study (NDWS), the In-Center Hemodialysis (ICH) CAHPS Survey, the Add Health Wave VI, and the Add Health Parent Study. In his research, Dr. Timbrook explores and analyzes behaviors that occur during the response process to make best practice recommendations for improving survey measurement.
