Emanuele Sozzi is a PFAS Program Manager at RTI. With over 15 years of experience in engineering, project management, laboratory research, and management consulting across the U.S. and E.U., he brings a collaborative spirit and deep commitment to public health. Dr. Sozzi has led large engineering teams through complex, time-sensitive projects and received multiple awards recognizing his achievements, including the North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality’s 2024 “Team of the Year Glass Award” and the “Team Achievement Award” for the work the team he led accomplished in detecting and reducing PFAS in public water supplies. He received the UNC Chapel Hill C. Felix Harvey Award honoring faculty whose proposals positively impact constituencies outside the University. Currently, Dr. Sozzi leads few projects aimed at strengthening RTI’s PFAS and other emerging contaminants portfolio.

Before joining RTI, Dr. Sozzi served as a consultant for international governments, non-governmental and private organizations, such as the World Health Organization, Médecins Sans Frontières (Doctors Without Borders), and Oxfam UK. He also served as a research assistant professor at the Water Institute – Gillings School of Global Public Health at UNC Chapel Hill.

Dr. Sozzi is multilingual, with proficiency in English, German, and Italian and has a working knowledge of French and Spanish. He holds a certificate as a Senior Chartered Professional Engineer (P.E.): Civil, Environmental, Industrial, IT, & Electric Italy – E.U. Engineering Council - #32753.
