Nonprofit research institute marks 65 years of leveraging innovation to improve the human condition
RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, N.C. — This year, nonprofit research institute RTI International marks its 65th anniversary. Founded in 1958 as Research Triangle Park’s anchor tenant, RTI is working across the globe to improve the human condition by turning knowledge into practice.
Formed by Triangle-area universities and government and business leaders to retain local talent, RTI has grown into one of the world’s leading nonprofit research institutes with 6,000 staff in more than 90 countries.
“For the past 65 years, RTI has led the charge toward making an impact for global good,” said RTI President and CEO Tim J. Gabel. “Innovation has been integral to our success from the beginning. Every day, we innovate for our clients, developing solutions for the world’s biggest challenges.”
Finding solutions to large global challenges has been RTI’s guiding light throughout its tenure, as evidenced by the many milestones accomplished along the way. From assisting the South African government with its transition from the apartheid education system and studying the long-term health effects in the wake of hurricanes Katrina and Rita to providing public health research and guidance during the COVID-19 pandemic, RTI’s experts make a difference around the world.
With recent unveilings including the Center to Reduce Firearm Violence, the Center for Thriving Children and the Center for Climate Solutions, RTI remains dedicated to addressing the world’s most critical problems in pursuit of a better future. Institute researchers are working on science-based solutions to control and eliminate neglected tropical diseases, close the health disparities gap, enhance education opportunities, address pandemics, improve public safety and expand affordable energy.
RTI understands that the organization’s success lies in its people and their dedication to the mission and strives to create a culture that allows staff to bring their authentic selves to work. In addition to hosting events for all staff to connect, the institute is providing additional volunteer opportunities to give back to the community through multiple charitable organizations during its 65th anniversary.
