RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, N.C.— The first edition of Practical Tools for Designing and Weighting Survey Samples was selected as the recipient of the 2020 AAPOR Book Award at the 75th American Association for Public Opinion Research (AAPOR) Annual Conference, held virtually on June 11-12, 2020. Jill A. Dever, PhD, a Senior Director in RTI’s Washington DC Office, co-authored the winning publication alongside Drs. Richard Valliant and Frauke Kreuter.
Practical Tools for Designing and Weighting Survey Samples gives survey practitioners insight into the statistical thinking and steps taken to design, select, and weight random survey samples. This book provides readers with survey sampling tools by explaining approaches long used by survey statisticians, illustrating how to solve survey problems using existing software, and developing specialized software when necessary.
Dr. Dever is a Senior Director at RTI International, where she works on a variety of projects related to health and preventive health care, and an adjunct assistant professor in the Joint Program in Survey Methodology at the University of Maryland. Her current research interests include variance estimation using calibrated analysis weights, and methods to evaluate the utility of nonprobability sampling.
Dr. Valliant is a research professor emeritus at the Institute for Social Research of the University of Michigan and the Joint Program in Survey Methodology at the University of Maryland, and Kreuter is an associate professor in the Joint Program in Survey Methodology at the University of Maryland and Professor of Statistics at Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität in Germany.
