Keith McCarty Named Triangle Business Journal Veteran of Influence

RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, N.C. — Triangle Business Journal recognized Keith McCarty, supply chain specialist at RTI International, a nonprofit research institute, as a 2019 Veteran of Influence award recipient.

The Veteran of Influence Award recognizes military veterans for their success in the Triangle business community. It aims to highlight those veterans who have made significant achievements in their careers in the past year, have strong records of innovation or outstanding performance in their work and are actively involved in the Triangle community.

“We are honored to recognize the brave men and women who have served our country," said TBJ Publisher Jason Christie. "These winners have translated that same drive and commitment into the business arena and are true leaders in their respective fields.”

McCarty is a founding member and co-lead of the RTI Veterans and Allies Resource (VALoR) Group. He has been instrumental in helping to position RTI International as an employer of choice for military veterans and their allies. Under his leadership, VALoR spearheaded an initiative which earned RTI International the designation of Military Friendly® Employer for 2019. McCarty also worked with RTI’s Small Business Office to better position the institute as a partner of choice for Veteran Owned and Service-Disabled Veteran Owned Small Businesses.

He earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration from The Citadel and a master’s degree in arts from Wright State University.  McCarty served as an infantry officer in the U.S. Army.  He is a combat veteran of Operation Iraqi Freedom, and was awarded the Bronze Star Medal for leading troops through an extended deployment to Baghdad in 2006.
