Bernice Bond promoted to Chief Information Security Officer

RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, N.C. — Bernice Bond has been promoted to Vice President and Chief Information Security Officer in Global Technology Solutions (GTS) at RTI International, reporting directly to Chief Information Officer Jorge Elguera.

“Bernice has demonstrated unwavering support for the institute in the last seven-plus years managing our IT risk, keeping us compliant and secure, maintaining IT policies, continuing to find solutions to our data protection and security, and keeping us up to date on the latest training opportunities in IT security,” said Elguera.

“She was the driving force for the team that ensured RTI was in full compliance with Section 889 in just two weeks, played a major role in receiving our ISO 27001 certification and conducting our identity and access management (IAM) assessment, and helped RTI transition to a secure working-from-home experience during the pandemic, just to mention a few key accomplishments,” he added.

As Chief Information Security Officer, Bond is responsible for monitoring and maintaining RTI’s information and data security. She will continue to lead the advancement of our data security, protection and compliance and the enhancements to our client’s security posture in this ever-changing security landscape.

Bond will focus specifically on evolving RTI’s cyber strategy to achieve effective and agile execution of client work while maintaining security guidelines as they apply to client projects and enterprise institute data.

Bond joined RTI in 2015 and has served in numerous roles, the most recent being Senior Director of the Technology Risk and Data Center group in GTS. Prior to RTI, she was an independent consultant for Brussell Consulting, where she founded and operated a consulting firm that serviced Fortune 100 and 500 companies such as PepsiCo and GlaxoSmithKline in the areas of IT auditing, data protection and Fiserv internal audit.

She received her Master of Business Administration degree in technology management from the University of Phoenix and a bachelor’s in accounting from Hampton University.
