New radio show to feature stories from social science, hosted by RTI International’s Brian Southwell

RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, NC— A new radio show on WNCU-FM (90.7 in the Raleigh-Durham broadcast market) will feature stories from social science and interviews by host Brian Southwell, Ph.D., director of the Science in the Public Sphere Program at RTI International.

Taped and produced in Durham, North Carolina, show executives are breaking new ground in public radio as they spotlight the everyday lives of social science researchers.

The weekly 30-minute show, called "The Measure of Everyday Life," will air every Sunday night at 6:30 p.m. beginning January 4.

The show will feature candid interviews with social science researchers who are working to improve the human condition.

"Every day, researchers are helping us understand the world in which we live, but many people do not have time or resources to read their work," Southwell said. "We are very excited to have forged a partnership with WNCU to bring people a new program about social science and how it matters to everyday life."

Upcoming shows will discuss human trafficking, life re-entry from prison, homeowner energy use, campus sexual assault policy, genetic screening, and disease disparities in a time of Ebola. The show will be aired on Sundays; podcasts of each episode will be released each Wednesday.

"We have a great team working on this project, including Executive Producer Kimberley Pierce, Audio Engineer Al Dawson, and Associate Producers Karla Jimenez and Karen Wade," Southwell said.

WNCU is a National Public Radio affiliate and a jazz and blues station based at North Carolina Central University.
