New Book Explores the Future of Forensic Sciences

RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, N.C. – A new book presents a comprehensive discussion of key issues and future directions within the forensic sciences.

Written by specialists from eleven disciplines within forensic sciences, Forensic Science: Current Issues, Future Directions examines central issues within forensic sciences, provides perspective on current debates and explores current and proposed research initiatives. 

Jeri Ropero-Miller, Ph.D., a senior research forensic scientist at RTI International, is a contributing author to the volume.

Ropero-Miller co-authored the chapter titled "Forensic Toxicology: Scope, Challenges, Future Directions and Needs" with Barry Logan, Ph.D., of NMS Labs.

The book also provides in-depth perspective on key issues in the contemporary practice of the forensic sciences, including criminalistics, pathology, forensic anthropology, forensics and dentistry, forensic psychology and the digital evolution of forensics.

Ropero-Miller has more than 15 years of experience in conducting forensic toxicology, clinical chemistry and studies in drug testing hair. She is a board-certified forensic toxicologist with Diplomate status in the American Board of Forensic Toxicology.

Prior to joining RTI in 2004, Ropero-Miller served as the deputy chief toxicologist at the State of North Carolina Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.

Forensic Science: Current Issues, Future Directions is co-published by Wiley and the American Academy of Forensic Sciences and is available on leading commercial bookseller websites.
