RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, N.C. -- Kami Spangenberg has been promoted to senior director of communications at RTI International.

As senior director, she leads a team consisting of the Office of Public Relations and Corporate Communications, Library and Information Services and the RTI Press. Her role includes strategic and executive communication planning and project management.

"Kami has done an outstanding job as interim director of this important function, and I am certain she will continue to make substantial contributions as we work to enhance the communications function and our reputation around the world," said Wayne Holden, Ph.D., president and CEO at RTI.

Kami joined RTI in 2011 as senior manager of communications. Her key accomplishments have included serving as the creative director for the RTI messaging campaign, which earned a 2012 International Association of Business Communicators Gold Quill Award. Kami has more than 20 years of experience working for publicly traded and privately held global companies. She has significant experience in brand strategy, global marketing, creative direction, media relations, advertising, change management and executive communications.

Prior to RTI, she worked in communication and marketing leadership roles at Progress Energy, Campbell Alliance, Harris Stratex Networks, Tompkins Associates and UAI Technology, Inc. She has also served as an adjunct instructor at Durham Technical Community College, Vance-Granville Community College and North Carolina Wesleyan College.
