Amy Roussel named Executive Vice President of Social, Statistical and Environmental Sciences at RTI International

RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, N.C. — RTI International president and CEO Tim J. Gabel has announced Amy E. Roussel as executive vice president of the institute’s Social, Statistical, and Environmental Sciences (SSES) business unit. Amy will serve as a member of RTI’s Executive Leadership Team (ELT).

Roussel has worked at RTI for 24 years. Prior to this appointment, she was senior vice president of Social Policy, Health, and Economics/Improving the Human Condition with responsibility for financial management, strategy implementation, and overall leadership for a staff of approximately 950 and yearly revenues of approximately $300 million. As head of SSES, the largest of RTI’s business units, Amy will provide strategic executive leadership to approximately 3,000 professional staff who conduct a variety of research, development and technical assistance projects.

“I’ve worked with Amy for many years in her various roles, and she has reported directly to me since 2016. Over that time, I’ve found her to be a strong and effective leader who, first and foremost, thinks about the well-being of staff. She has a growth mindset and is committed to scientific stature and professional development. Her advocacy for and commitment to our equity, diversity, inclusion and belonging goals, a key consideration in our search and selection process, are incredibly strong.  She knows our business, our clients and our people,” said Gabel.

Roussel received her doctorate and master’s degrees in sociology from Stanford University and her bachelor’s in sociology from Duke University. During her career she has led numerous multimillion-dollar projects for various federal agencies, addressing topics ranging from HIV to patient safety, and her record of publications has focused on generating actionable insights for practitioners and policymakers.
