Glossary Term

Procedural Justice

Procedural justice refers to the fairness of the processes that authorities use when interacting with the public. It focuses on transparency, impartiality, respect, and opportunities for individuals to be heard. Research shows that when people perceive processes as fair, they are more likely to trust authorities and comply with laws. RTI applies procedural justice principles to evaluate and improve policing practices.
