Michelle Walter is a biostatistician with over two decades of experience in leading multisite clinical research studies. As the Vice President of Statistics, Ms. Walter provides leadership to a division of 125+ statisticians with expertise in biostatistics, survey statistics, psychometrics, and other related areas. The division also includes experts in the design, oversight, and management of multi-site clinical research projects and coordinating centers, including project managers, epidemiologists, and project support staff.  

Prior to taking on her current role, Ms. Walter led a cross-functional team comprised of 80+ statisticians, principal investigators, projects managers, and support staff that provided coordinating center services to a portfolio of National Institutes of Health (NIH) and foundation-funded clinical research networks and studies.

Ms. Walter has an extensive background of project experience, such as her position as the Operations Core Lead for the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NHLBI)-funded Collaborating Network of Networks for Evaluating COVID-19 and Therapeutic Strategies (CONNECTS). In partnership with the principal investigators of the project, she oversaw the administrative coordinating center operations and implementation of clinical trials.

Before joining RTI in 2020, Ms. Walter worked for a mid-sized CRO where she led a multidisciplinary business unit of more than 100 people that provided coordinating center services for federally funded research networks and studies. Working with principal investigators and NIH leadership, she provided oversight of quality control, protocol development, monitoring, data management, statistics, safety, and regulatory services for a portfolio of over 70 observational studies and clinical trials. She also served in a corporate management role as a member of the executive leadership team, where she provided the federal research perspective to corporate strategic planning and decision-making for a company of over 400 people.
