Laura M. Smith studies health care quality and policy as part of RTI’s Quality Measurement and Health Policy Program. Using qualitative and quantitative approaches, Dr. Smith analyzes large-scale, government-funded health programs and reports on quality indicators and patient health outcomes.

Currently, Dr. Smith is a leader in several projects for the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, including a project developing quality measures for use in post-acute and long-term care nursing home settings.

Dr. Smith joined RTI in 2008. Her background also includes research roles in public health at Brown University and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
