Joshua Pretlow is an expert in higher education research and policy, especially quantitative data management and analysis for education surveys. His research interests include community college students and the transition from high school to college.
Dr. Pretlow plays a key role in a family of postsecondary education surveys sponsored by the National Center for Education Statistics. These include the National Postsecondary Student Aid Study, which keeps track of how Americans pay for college, and Beginning Postsecondary Students, a longitudinal study of the paths students take after enrolling in college.
Dr. Pretlow came to RTI in 2017 from the University of North Carolina system’s General Administration office, where he served as director of policy research and analysis. His experience also includes consulting for colleges and universities and teaching graduate-level higher education content and research courses. He was an academic fellow of the Institute for Higher Education Policy in 2012 and 2013, and is a member of the Association for the Study of Higher Education and the Association of Institutional Research.
