Jorge Mayo is a hydrology expert who supports projects across Latin America and the United States. He specializes in developing automated workflows for hydrology modeling processes and data retrieval related to climate, land use, and environmental datasets. His work supports operational applications, water supply assessments, and long-term water resources planning, enabling more efficient data integration and decision-making processes.

Since joining RTI in 2023, Mr. Mayo has focused on technical tasks related to various hydrologic models, including data acquisition and analysis, model development, calibration, scenario assessment, and technical documentation. He also conducts capacity-building workshops to transfer technology and strengthen local expertise in Latin America. In addition, he contributes to the calibration of sub-basin models such as SNOW-17, SAC-SMA, and HydroBID, as well as the retrieval and analysis of satellite-based data from programs such as OpenET and MapBiomas.

Mr. Mayo’s professional experience includes two years working with the operational group of the Early Warning System of Medellín, Colombia (SIATA), where he gained valuable experience in environmental data analysis, meteorology, hydrology, and air quality. During his master’s studies, his research focused on predicting soil texture, surface soil moisture, and the partitioning of evapotranspiration in a dryland ecosystem using machine learning and distributed hydrological modeling techniques.

Mr. Mayo is a registered environmental engineer in Colombia and speaks Spanish and English. He is also a proficient programmer in Python, R, and SQL.
