James Hunter has over fifteen years of public policy experience. As Vice President of Government Relations, he is responsible for leading and developing comprehensive government relations strategy for RTI. He leads a team of government relations professionals with expertise in federal, state, and international policy, and supports corporate strategic communications and strategy development. Mr. Hunter also advises and coordinates with RTI executives, business leaders, and partners to identify and advance institute priorities.

Currently, Mr. Hunter regularly engages with policymakers on RTI’s business priorities and expertise, including matters related to international development, technology, research, health, education, defense, energy, economic, and environmental policy. He successfully secured new investments in RTI-led multi-sector defense research initiatives, clean energy research, and global health programming.

Prior to joining RTI in 2017, Mr. Hunter served as Legislative Director for a senior member of the U.S. House Committee on Appropriations. Mr. Hunter is a Marshall Memorial Fellow at the German Marshall Fund of the United States and is the co-chair of the Neglected Tropical Diseases (NTD) Roundtable.
