RTI Statement on New USAID Administrator Mark Green

RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, North Carolina — Paul Weisenfeld, executive vice president for international development, released the following statement today congratulating Mark Green on becoming Administrator of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID):

“On behalf of RTI International, I would like to congratulate Administrator Green on his new position.

“During his confirmation hearing before the Senate, Administrator Green said that his experiences in development ‘from working in classrooms in Kenya, to walking hospital wards in Tanzania, to observing election halls in Jordan and Burma, have shown me that the American people and our lead development agency, USAID, can be an irreplaceable force for good in the world.’ This statement speaks for all of us at RTI who devote our careers to the cause of international development. We are humbled to be a partner of USAID and the American people in our nation’s noble efforts to help the world’s poor build better futures for themselves, their families, their communities and their countries.

“We also share Administrator Green’s perspective, as expressed during his confirmation hearing, that development is an important complement to diplomacy and defense. From strengthening civil society, to preventing famine and starvation, to fighting the spread of disease, and much more, USAID’s work strengthens America’s national and economic security by promoting peace, prosperity and stability—including in some of the world’s most volatile regions.

“Finally, we look forward to continuing to work with USAID and the entire development community to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of U.S. foreign assistance. As a USAID implementing partner, we take very seriously our responsibilities to USAID, American taxpayers, and program beneficiaries. We are committed to developing the knowledge and capabilities needed to do more with less, deliver measurable results, scale successful interventions and bring programs to a successful close because they have achieved their goals.

“Throughout his career, Administrator Green has proven to be a capable leader and committed advocate of U.S. foreign assistance. We look forward to working with him and the USAID team.”
