NC-COMP to Support North Carolina State University on Department of Defense Grant

RTI Innovation Advisors, a business unit of RTI, will head up NC-COMP’s contributions

RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, N.C. — The North Carolina Center for Optimizing Military Performance (NC-COMP), a consortium led by RTI International comprised of more than 25 North Carolina-based organizations, will support North Carolina State University under a grant from the Defense Manufacturing Community Support Program (DMCSP) of the Department of Defense.

The grant, awarded to NCSU’s Industry Expansion Solutions group, is being used to undertake a multi-million-dollar project in advanced textiles and autonomous wearables. It aims to implement a strategy to address immediate ramp-up needs for the transition out of COVID-19 restricted operations to longer-term technological opportunities.

The purpose of the DMCSP is to make long-term investments in critical skills, facilities, workforce development, research and development, and small business support to strengthen the national security innovation base.

RTI Innovation Advisors, a business unit of RTI, will lead NC-COMP’s contributions to the work by managing the product innovation pipeline and ensuring smart textile and wearable products make it to warfighters and other end markets. The Innovation Advisors team will also conduct market analyses and generate innovative approaches to address warfighter performance needs. Contributors from NC-COMP will conduct testing of the products on active military personnel at Ft. Bragg and Camp Lejeune.
