Media Advisory: RTI International’s Internship Showcase Goes Virtual, for the First Time

Interns have continued to make an impact at RTI through COVID-19 global pandemic

RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, N.C. – Over 95 interns from 34 academic institutions across 11 states joined RTI International, a nonprofit research institute, for their annual summer internship program. On Friday, August 7, the University Collaboration Office (UCO) will host its 12th annual internship showcase – an opportunity for RTI interns to share more about their experiences and celebrate accomplishments. RTI is extending the invitation to all who would like to attend through a virtual webinar.

In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, RTI’s internship program was hosted in a virtual capacity for the first time. Throughout the summer, the interns have had the opportunity to participate in professional development activities that serve to supplement their technical experiences and the internship showcase will allow interns to spotlight the work they’ve done during their summer at RTI.

“At nearly the same time we were preparing to welcome interns to campus for our annual program, we were prompted to quickly shift gears to a virtual format in response to the COVID-19 pandemic,” said Jacqueline Olich, PhD, vice president of RTI’s UCO. “This year’s program was different than the past and the showcase will help recognize the important work interns contributed and professional development experience gained – even in light of the pandemic.”

The showcase, which will be hosted from 9:30 a.m. to noon EST, on Friday August 7, will include a series of panels and provide attendees with a glimpse of their virtual experiences, a reflection on differences in a virtual workplace environment, and how they plan to use their experiences to influence career goals.
