Forbes magazine ranks RTI International among best employers for women

RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, NC—In its first-ever ranking of America’s best employers for women, Forbes magazine has included RTI International among its list and ranked the Institute at #237 out of 300 companies surveyed. Coming on the heels of the #MeToo movement, this survey highlights many companies that support their female staff in areas traditionally important to women, including pay equity, opportunities for advancement and family leave.

“It’s an honor to be recognized as one of America’s best employers for women by Forbes,” said RTI President and CEO Wayne Holden, Ph.D. “As an organization with women comprising 56% of its workforce, we’re committed to the professional growth and well-being of our female staff members. Not only do they dedicate their time, intellect and passion to their work, they are resilient problem solvers who help RTI make a positive impact in the world.”

To create the survey list, Forbes worked with Statista, a market research company, to survey 40,000 Americans, including 25,000 women, working for businesses with at least 1,000 employees. All the surveys were anonymous. Respondents rated their organizations on working conditions, diversity and how likely they’d be to recommend their employer to others. These responses were examined for potential gender gaps and if gaps were detected, Statista adjusted the company’s score accordingly. Female respondents were asked to rate their employers on factors such as parental leave, discrimination and pay equity. These respondents were also asked to nominate organizations in industries outside their own. The final list ranks the 300 employers that received the most recommendations and have the most gender diverse boards and executive ranks.
