RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, N.C. — Daniel J. Vreeman, PT, DPT, MS, FACMI, Senior Clinical Data Standards Lead at RTI International, a nonprofit research institute, has been appointed to the U.S. Core Data for Interoperability (USCDI) Task Force 2021.
The USCDI is a national standard of core health data classes and component data elements for nationwide, interoperable health data exchange. Federal regulations from the Office of the National Coordinator for Health IT (ONC) and Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services require that providers and payers make USCDI data available for sharing electronic health information.
This USCDI Task Force is charged with reviewing and making recommendations on the Draft USCDI Version 2 and on the process that ONC uses for updating and expanding the USCDI over time. As a member of the committee, Dr. Vreeman will provide input on the current specification, and strategic advice on which health data should be included in future versions and the data standards to represent them. Dr. Vreeman was a member of the USCDI Task Force in 2018, and has recently published recommendations for strengthening our health information foundation with the USCDI.
Dr. Vreeman's work aims to create a global health ecosystem where data is available with open standards that unlock the potential for information systems and applications to improve health decision-making and care.
Vreeman completed a post-doctoral fellowship in medical informatics at the Regenstrief Institute, earned a Doctor of Physical Therapy from Duke University School of Medicine, a Masters in Clinical Research from Indiana University, and a bachelor's degree in Biological Sciences from Cornell University. His work has been recognized through notable awards, including being elected as fellow of the American College of Medical Informatics, the Distinguished Alumni Award from the Duke University Doctor of Physical Therapy Program, the Technology and Innovation Award from the American Physical Therapy Association Health Policy and Administration Section.
