| Design of Flood Control Measures in the Volcano Region of Rwanda |

RTI provided the hydrological and hydraulic modeling to identify the flood prone areas in Rwanda’s Volcano areas, as well as developing the design flows for each of the mitigation measures. RTI also evaluated the effectiveness of the proposed mitigation measures. A key objective of the project was to identify and design flood control measures for the Volcano region using a combination of ecosystem-based and structural interventions. |

RTI designed a meteorological and hydrologic monitoring network as part of the development of a Water Resources Information System (WRIS) for monitoring surface water, groundwater, and water quality for the watersheds draining into Lake Victoria. We also provided guidance on network hardware and data transmission technologies. |
| Flood Control Measure Designs for the Volcano Region |

RTI performed a rainfall analysis and developed hydrological and hydraulic models to design ecosystem based and structural flood mitigation measures. Site visits and field surveys were undertaken to develop an understanding of the area and assess feasible locations for mitigation measures. |

RTI provided a training program that addressed the concepts, tools, procedures, and technologies involved in effective hydrological and hydraulic modeling in the Kivu catchment of the Sebeya River. We provided the trainees with a clear understanding of the concepts and procedures imparted to them a skill-set that will increase their confidence in using HEC-RAS and HEC-HMS software. |
| Nile Basin Decision Support System |

RTI supported the development and deployment of the Nile Basin Decision Support System (NBDSS), a transparent, easy-to use, documented, and scalable information management and decision support system tailored to meet the specific needs of riparian countries and other stakeholders of the Nile Basin. The system provides a common collaborative tool for cooperation among Nile Basin countries. RTI developed tools for hydrometeorological analyses and scenario modeling; model optimization; and Multi-Criteria and Costs-Benefit Analysis (MCA/CBA). We developed training materials and provided on-site training to NBI and national water resources engineers. |

The purpose of the Water Resources Information System was to improve water management in the Lake Victoria Basin. RTI designed the meteorological and hydrologic monitoring network as part of the information system and provided guidance regarding network hardware and data transmission technologies.
