Sumedh Agarwal serves as Deputy Chief of Party for the USAID South Asia Regional Energy Partnership, a project aimed at improving access to affordable, secure, reliable, and sustainable energy in six South Asian countries. He has over two decades of experience in the energy sector and has implemented multiple utility modernization programs, focusing on public-private partnerships, within the evolving utility landscape in South Asia, the Pacific, and the Middle East.

Before joining RTI, Mr. Agarwal was a Director at Tetra Tech where he managed donor-funded projects for USAID, ADB, USTDA, and The World Bank, focused on reforming power sectors. Early in his career, he worked as a utility engineer with utilities such as Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) and TATA Power. His involvement was instrumental in the design of new technologies such as demand response and IT-OT convergence.

Other work experience includes deploying and scaling advanced clean energy technologies, loss reduction of 20+ electric utilities, designing energy efficient retrofit program for 120+ industries and buildings, policy and regulatory support to electricity regulatory commissions, and building the capacity of more than 35,000 energy sector professionals.

He has professional qualifications as Project Management Professional (PMP), Certified Energy Auditor (Association of Energy Engineers, USA), Certified Energy Manager and Energy Auditor (Bureau of Energy Efficiency, Ministry of Power, India), and Smart Grid Maturity Model Trainer (Carnegie Mellon University). He has co-authored two books and published several papers.
