Sonia Thomas is a Senior Research Statistician and principal investigator (PI) for multisite randomized clinical trial Data Coordinating Centers. Currently, Dr. Thomas applies her expertise as PI of the Administrative Coordinating Center for National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute’s CONNECTS program, which conducts studies to test if medications can safely help individuals recover from COVID-19.

Her recent research focuses on surgical interventions for pelvic floor disorders, a novel medical treatment for a rare hemorrhagic genetic disorder, behavioral interventions to reduce opioid dependence for chronic pain, treatment outcomes for pediatric ulcerative colitis, and assessments of neurocognitive decline. She specializes in sample size calculations, interim analyses, data and safety monitoring boards, and analysis of repeated measures data.  Dr. Thomas is a member of the American Statistical Association and Society for Clinical Trials.
