Shiang Cheng Lim is a global health expert based in RTI’s Malaysia office. Her interdisciplinary research largely focuses on how social, cultural, legal, and other contextual factors influence people’s health-related behavior and decisions. She is interested in improving health through a multidimensional approach, creating an enabling environment and an effective health system that provides universal health coverage.
Currently, Dr. Lim is a technical lead for the Better Health Programme Malaysia, a community-based obesity prevention program. She helps build the capacity of community health workers, promotes digital health solutions, and develops evidence-based interventions.
Dr. Lim joined RTI in 2020. Previously, during postgraduate studies, she worked as an independent consultant for various international and UN agencies. She conducted interdisciplinary research on sexual and reproductive health, abortion, HIV, gender-based violence, aging, cognitive function and impairment, and noncommunicable diseases. She has also been a research project manager at Steno Diabetes Centre Malaysia/Copenhagen, a nonprofit research and teaching institution on diabetes care and prevention. In 2018, she was awarded a postdoctoral fellowship from the United Nations University – International Institute for Global Health (UNU-IIGH).
