Miguel Franco is an experienced project manager who has worked in more than 45 countries in Africa, the Americas, Asia, and Europe. Mr. Franco is a chemical and environmental engineer who has been working on renewable energy, resource management, and climate change in international development for more than 20 years. Mr. Franco specializes in conducting economic, business, and environmental assessments of existing processes, operations, and technologies through data gathering and analysis. He also conducts institutional needs assessments and provides institutional strengthening and capacity building assistance to public and private organizations.
Mr. Franco currently leads the Power Africa Off-grid Project, a USAID-sponsored plan to bring power to six million households and businesses in areas of sub-Saharan Africa where the electrical grid does not reach. Mr. Franco came to RTI in 2019 from TetraTech, where he also worked on Power Africa, leading a team focused on small-scale renewable energy and off-grid activities. Before getting involved in international development, Mr. Franco worked as a chemical engineer in the Dominican Republic's mining and electrochemical industries. He is fluent in English and Spanish.
