Irene Waeni Mue is a director of strategy and partnerships with deep experience facilitating private sector-led growth in agricultural value chains in Kenya. Ms. Mue has a keen understanding of the Kenyan private sector and a proven ability to design partnerships with private sector actors, leading to increased self-reliance. Having co-founded a flower export firm early in her career, she has honed her entrepreneurship and business development skills in multiple sectors, including agribusiness.
Ms. Mue is a proficient leader with a proven track record in organizing project teams and has demonstrated strengths in heading multiple stakeholder engagements with actors, including county governments, sector associations, private businesses, and development agencies. She currently serves as the Director, Strategy, and Partnerships for the Feed the Future Kenya Crops and Dairy Market Systems (KCDMS) Activity, implemented by RTI International. Her duties include ensuring KCDMS’s alignment with USAID priorities, fostering strategic partnerships with public and private sector actors and USAID implementing partners, and providing strategic leadership in leveraging emerging opportunities.
Before working with RTI, Ms. Mue worked as a consultant at a local consulting firm, with clients spanning a range of complex, donor-funded assignments in Kenya and across East Africa, including but not limited to the Eastern Africa Grain Council, the Global Alliance for Improved Nutrition, the World Bank and the UN World Food Programme.
