Mr. Exper Pius is an expert in natural resource management who currently supports the USAID Tuhifadhi Maliasili Activity. This five-year project addresses the complex dynamics hindering habitat connectivity for key species in Tanzania and works to preserve the country’s long-term persistence of biodiversity. Mr. Pius supports the Chief of Party and provides overall leadership and technical oversight. He also serves as Policy Manager, strengthening the ability of key Government and Civil Society Organizations to create, influence and execute national and local policy frameworks through evidence-based decisions.

Mr. Pius has over 16 years of experience in natural resources management in Tanzania. This includes serving as RTI’s environmental management advisor for Natural Resources Management and Policy and later as the senior environmental management advisor for the USAID PROTECT Activity. Under the auspices of this project, which expanded biodiversity conservation efforts and increased private sector-led conservation in Tanzania, Mr. Pius facilitated the adoption and implementation of more than 10 major policies, laws, regulations and plans for improved natural resources management and tourism.

Mr. Pius has also served as the In-Country Coordinator for the U.S. Department of the Interior - International Technical Assistance Program. Additionally, Mr. Pius spent eight years working in the forest sector in the Program Planning and Communication Department for the Eastern Arc Mountains Conservation Endowment Fund.
