Carolina Close, a member of our Behavioral Health Epidemiology and Treatment Research Program, specializes in substance abuse and mental health program evaluation and technical assistance.
Ms. Close, who joined RTI in 2014, serves as the RTI associate project director for the Opioid Response Network (ORN), a national technical assistance (TA) initiative funded by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA). ORN promotes evidence-based practices for opioid use disorder prevention, treatment, and recovery; providing local education, training, and TA to communities across the country. As a subcontractor to the American Academy of Addiction Psychiatry, RTI monitors and evaluates participants' satisfaction with TA as well as the network’s overall reach and impact.
Ms. Close is also the study lead for an evaluation of the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment’s training and technical assistance (TTA) activities related to retail marijuana education and prevention. Additionally, she is the TTA team lead for SAMHSA’s Performance Accountability and Reporting System (SPARS). SPARS provides online grantee data collection and performance reporting for SAMHSA’s three Services Centers: Center for Mental Health Services, Center for Substance Abuse Treatment, and Center for Substance Abuse Prevention. Ms. Close oversees a team of TTA coordinators in the development of virtual trainings, learning communities, TA events, and resource materials that support grantees nationally in reporting timely and accurate data to SAMHSA.
