Anirban Chatterjee serves as an Associate Director for RTI International India, where he focuses on Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) initiatives. Since improved WASH access directly leads to climate change adaptation co-benefits, he holds deep expertise in conceptualizing innovative climate resilience and WASH projects, leveraging blended finance structures and climate finance streams for supporting these projects, managing their implementation, assessing impacts, and institutionalizing knowledge through strengthened teams. In his most recent role, he served as the project manager for RTI’s initiative in India under the Australian Government’s flagship water and sanitation project, the Water for Women Fund. He is a GARP-certified Sustainability & Climate Risk Professional as well as a Government of India certified energy auditor.

Before joining RTI in 2019, Mr. Chatterjee worked with EY and KPMG in their climate change and sustainability practices. He was involved in developing partnership-led business transformation strategies towards Indian clientele across utility, industry, investor, and service sectors. This includes supporting the Pune city government towards the Swachh Bharat Mission, conceptualizing and supervising the development of USAID-Reckitt’s joint Hygiene Index initiative in India, developing the Blue & Green Master Plan for Bhopal city, structuring Haryana state’s cluster-based solid waste management infrastructure, and developing the water policy for Gujarat state. Additionally, Mr. Chatterjee was routinely engaged in management and the development of high-value and strategic bids for these organizations and their team building.

Mr. Chatterjee’s publications include a landscape of Climate Finance for WASH: India, a three-part series on blended finance and WASH, Making the Critical Connections between Climate Resilience and Inclusive WASH (Lessons from Water for Women), Mobilizing Private Sector Finance for Climate Change Adaption, and Pune Public Toilet Policy: Standard Framework for Public Toilets.
