Informatics Partnership Council Presentation - What is the Role for Industry in Informatics Research?

Evaluating the development, implementation, and use of health IT systems is a foundational element in the science of biomedical informatics. We will discuss the topics of commercial and non-commercial bias, the peer review process, authorship requirements, proprietary software, and the role of AMIA in guiding policy in this area.

Health Information Technology Adoption and Utilization in Long-Term and Post-Acute Care Settings

LTPAC providers are adopting EHRs to support their clinical and business needs but use of interoperable means to share health information is problematic. In 2021 a research team from RTI International conducted a landscape analysis to explore changes in LTPAC HIT adoption and utilization. Preliminary findings found that LTPAC use of interoperability features in their EHRs lags without a driver or policy lever. Findings, including barriers, facilitators, innovators, and potential policy options will be discussed.

Enhancing Value Set Maintenance for Transferring Harmonized Laboratory Data from Health Care Institutions to Registries

In a collaboration with FDA, we developed a FHIR Implementation Guide (IG) to advance the semantic interoperability of laboratory test data exchange between a healthcare institution and a registry. For this project, we created adaptive value sets of LOINC codes based on a rules and query filters rather than a simple list of codes, and as a result, the value sets will automatically update to include new content when new versions of LOINC are loaded to the user's FHIR server.

Our experts in informatics, emerging technologies, and data analytics collaborate across business and clinical departments using evidence-based approaches to define the clinical value of patient- and enterprise-facing health IT.
